Well, as we all know Shoryuken has a seriously popular role in the realm of gaming especially fighting games. It appeared everywhere from Rage saying “AH YOU KEN” to it appearing on shirts, etc. Street Fighter has held it down as the most popular fighting game globally. Now, this is a really great Pop Culture episode from Game Trailers. I remember being about 7 years old, and I always wondered who was Sheng Long. Now, I was very intuitive with the game, and always had the back in the head, “Maybe it was Ryu and Ken’s sensei?” I was correct, but I didn’t know that Shen Long was a derivative of Dragon Punch, which actually makes sense after I watched that episode of Dragon Ball Z where Goku got the power of Sheng Long and did the Dragon Punch.
Now, how this correlates to the story is basically that this was a mistake in the U.S. version (no Balrog, Vega, or Bison). Sheng Long or Gouken was not actually introduced until Street Fighter IV. The legend of how Bison would get defeated if you won a certain number of victories was actually Gouki (Akuma) in Super Street Fighter II Turbo. So what came from this myth was two separate characters, both brothers of the same Murder Fist style. Dope, right? Well, peep the clip below for more details!!
