Throwback Thursday – The Making of Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back (PlayStation)
in Gaming, Throwback Thursdays
as action adventure, Crash 2, Crash Bandicoot Cortex strikes back. Naughty Dog, Gaming, Playstation, PSOne, PSX, Underground Demo PSX disc
If this is not a throwback, I dunno what is. Along with Croc, this is one of the first adventure games I played when I was younger. I actually still remember the first I played Crash 2, it was 1997 at a friend’s spot. We had both PSX and Nintendo 64. We were just switching over from playing WCW v NWO (this was the hey day of the whole thing). At any rate, this was probably some of the best graphics coming from PSX. The character was pretty cool, very unique, and the game soundtrack was on point. PSX definitely had the whole CD quality thing on lock – that’s for sure.
The fact that this making of Crash Bandicoot 2 comes from an Underground demo is crazy! That is definitely a throwback. PSX was the one really promoting that whole demo disc thing. Crash 2 happened to be one of the cool games that had like a two level demo if I’m not mistaken, right? Also, add in the fact that this game had full on voice acting to bring along with the story line. It was an overall great title; a trailblazer if you will.
I remember this game was the answer to Mario. Although, it could not compete with the sheer beautiful graphics of the N64, the gameplay was straight, the dialogue was cool, and just it’s overall fun factor – good stuff. At any rate, check out the lil demo below. You’ll sure get a great memory of playing this title! Enjoy!
